Stainless steel part machining

Stainless steel is found in all industrial fields, food (kitchen), medical…

INODEC has developed a strong know-how and masters the machinability of stainless steel, which is known to be a difficult material to machine, especially because of its chip management.

At INODEC, we machine more than 322 tons of stainless steel per year, mainly from bar.

Mechanical properties of stainless steel machined parts

  • Difficult to machine
  • High mechanical strength
  • Good wear resistance
  • Hardness and abrasion resistance
  • Corrosion resistance: Stainless steels are able to resist oxidation and corrosion caused by exposure to moisture, chemicals or other corrosive agents (its many alloys allow for a more or less high corrosion resistance). Stainless steel parts can be passivated to ensure a higher corrosion resistance
  • High temperature resistance
  • Versatile
  • 100% recyclable

Characteristics and applications of machined stainless-steel parts

Machining stainless steel is relatively similar to machining steel, but its special properties require specific machining.

Depending on your needs and projects, we can machine all types of stainless-steel parts.

We find this material in a multitude of sectors such as:

  • The automotive industry: fasteners, connectors, bolts, nuts
  • The oil and gas industry and the nuclear industry: such as parts for valves and fittings due to their resistance to corrosive environments.
  • Industrial equipment: bearing rings, bearings, gears and fastenings
  • Electronic and electrical equipment: parts such as electronic components, measuring instruments,
  • Aeronautics: such as fasteners, fittings and other types of components

Additional post-production operations on stainless steel turned parts

After turning, additional treatment operations, such as shot peening, milling, and surface coating, can be performed to improve the aesthetic or functional properties of the stainless-steel part. We can also, with the help of our local subcontractors, carry out passivation and laser marking operations.
